Ontario is home to at least two kinds of wolves: the gray wolf and the eastern wolf. The eastern wolf is listed as a species of special concern under the Endangered Species Act, 2007. Scientific evidence indicates that the eastern wolf is a unique species (Canis lycaon), rather than a subspecies of gray wolf (Canis lupus).
